PINSPOT MANIA & THE MAXI-MINIMALIST APPROACH

Hi beauties! Today I want to share a minimal outfit you may want to give a go. I love the comfort and the confidence it gives me. It’s all pared-back pieces, a good balance of snug and relaxed fit, and a bit of zing. The look is chic but it’s made to let you do the shining.

What is maxi-minimalism?

Contrary to common beliefs, minimal does not only mean absolute luxury items. True, luxe stuff makes it easier to discreetly stand out, but still. Minimal is sleek, chic, and often just simple, no-fuss and no-nonsense, like a white or a black shirt, plain but well-cut trousers or jeans. But you can’t wear those every single day, can you? Of course, if you do minimal, you’ll be figuring out thousands of ways to combine black and white. However, if there was ever an easy way to put extra zing in minimal outfits, it’s either with special little details or the ‘small print’ 🙂

I must admit I gravitate towards maxi-minimalism which – in my vocabulary – means three things. One, a basic wardrobe of more or less ‘normal’ clothing items. Two, some recent (ie trend-led) or timeless pieces with some not too conspicuous but still striking details. Three, the approach for creating an outfit: either strictly minimal or a baroque touch.

Today’s minimal look

This look represents the latter: I’m actually mixing and matching colours (navy and black) and prints (pinspot and bandana paisley) with the shirt and the scarf. They are really pared-back but together, when you look closely, there’s a baroque exuberance about them – without disturbing the overall minimalism of the outfit. The key to keeping it sleek is the simplicity of the jeans and the boots, and the total comfort with which you move around in it, plus the confidence it all gives you.

What do you think about minimalism? I find I’m truly attracted to it but I prefer to work out what it means to me. How about you – do you have any pros, cons or personal issues when it comes to creating or rocking a minimal style?
