WEEKEND CASUAL: JOIN THE KEW

london kew gardens casual retro weekend outfit

For ages I’ve been wanting to visit Kew Gardens, it just didn’t happen, until now. Kew has everything you can wish for at a botanic garden, and more! If you haven’t been yet, I definitely recommend – just make sure you plan for a full day event 🙂

How to prep for Kew

Plan your visit. Look up info, attractions and special events on the Kew website and save an image of a recent map if you can. Get a rough idea of what you would like to see once there, and plan your own route. Remember, the gardens are huuuge, you will be walking a whole lot so you will want to save your energy.

Outfit ideas. First of all, pick comfy shoes, carry an extra layer of clothing and a rain mac or umbrella. We had great weather but even so we had to walk a bit in a little surprise drizzle. As for my outfit, I went full casual with a bit of a retro vibe but looking back I may have been wrong. If I visited again, I would definitely pick a top with ruffles and would probably carry a hat too. Why? Scroll down to my pics of Kew Palace. Now, wouldn’t that be the perfect backdrop to a little improvised picnic? All you need is a few ruffles for the photos 😀 To take it even further, I would get a maxi dress to take pictures in around the palace.

Top stuff to see in Kew Gardens

Kew Palace, Palm House, the Hive, Queen Charlotte’s Cottage, King William’s Temple, the treetop walkway, the badger sett. If I return this summer, I will add the Temperate House (the largest Victorian glass house in the world), the Japanese Minka house and the Great Pagoda to the stuff I’ve seen and snapped pics of. I will also check if there is any good evening event on while I’m around. Ah, and as an old-school prog rock fan, I would try and ferret out where the plant called giant hogweed lives within the gardens…

Have you been to Kew Gardens? Anything in particular that you loved?

Cheers,
Gabriella
