A daytrip in style? Ditch the Stans and the baseball cap, that’s so airport. Here’s what a sleek minimal all-black look can do for you – you will feel FAB! Plus, check my Top 3 pubs in Oxford. And the special occasion? It was the first time I had the chance to spend some time with my Mum in the UK so I couldn’t wait to take her on a tour around my favourite town ever.
How to prep for your daytrip
First, you’ll want to look chic and feel comfy, right? A daytrip can be tiring but hey, compared to a full day of crisscrossing London, it’s next to nothing! Think about it: if you get out of town, you’ll spend a total of 3 to 4 hours relaxing, watching the landscape whoosh by. Therefore, what remains of the day is easy to manage in smart flat shoes – just pick yours.
Second, It’s no bad thing either to be able to stand out a bit in your photos among the colourfully dressed tourist hordes. Hence the all-black outfit concept… accidentally, my Mum wore something very similar to my look, which is quite rare 🙂
Third, when I travel I need to carry all of my essentials with me, a fact that must be at least tolerable all through the day, whether I’m walking, stopping to take pictures, sitting down to have lunch, a glass of ale or a coffee. So, besides the practical leather bag, I carry a mid-sized black shopper. It’s incredible how it blends in with your outfit so you don’t look like granny returning from the Saturday market.
The best daytrip outfit
Low-rise skinny jeans. Did I mention sitting for hours as you travel? Well, a lower rise (mid-rise should do too I guess) does miracles in making me feel at ease so I arrive to my destination relaxed.
A black pinspot shirt. The combination of the flowy shirt and the skinnies is what gives the outfit the sleekness you’re after. Besides, pinspots are great to break the monotony of the all-black look.
Smart flats. As mentioned, a shorter day deserves a chic pair of city flats. Here, I picked my V-cut pointed toe shoes.
A lightweight but warm cover-up. I chose a lightly padded, minimal bomber jacket and I can say it was perfect! Carry it in your hand, fold it over your cross-body bag, tuck it into your shopper, or tie it to your waist. Plus, it doubles as the perfect pillow to sit on.
Minimal leather bag. You need a camera bag style cross-body so your key essentials are always at hand. I like large bags but it’s great to add a smaller one and avoid rummaging around in a big bag every five minutes.
My top 3 pubs in Oxford
In the past years I spent a lot of time discovering traditional Oxford pubs and I just looove them. As you would expect, I have zillions of pictures of Oxford, including exteriors and interiors of a whole bunch of pubs in and around town. But today, I decided to only show you my top 3 places I always visit – this time, it was a real treat to check them out with Mum 🙂 If you are in Oxford, don’t stop at three pubs but make sure you cover these during your epic crawl. Don’t give a damn if these sometimes feel like tourist traps – remember, you’re here for the ales and the atmosphere.
The Turf Tavern – well tucked away, an amazing medieval space with loads of ales to try.
Lamb & Flag – simple but cozy like home, and some of my fave ales I always like to re-test.
Eagle & Child – Prof Tolkien’s place, need I say more? ‘Course it’s great.
